Concert Black is an interactive clothing piece that integrates touch and sound to reflect the formative musical moments of my adolescence. Inspired by the traditional “concert black” attire worn in classical ensemble performances, the design reimagines this uniform through added scrunches, ties, and textures. These embellishments serve as a figurative literal metaphor for the layers of personal growth and finding identity throughout my childhood and into adulthood.

The audios embedded in the piece span significant milestones in my music journey, together narrating a journey of musical and personal development. The final audio is a video from my toddler years, where I am singing and applauded by my mom and dad. It’s a reminder that the opportunities and accomplishments I’ve made in music have all been rooted in my parents’ unwavering support.  This garment embodies not just my journey but also my gratitude, with every performance serving as a testament to my parents’ love.

The garment is hand-sewn and incorporates a Raspberry Pi to produce the audio. Each of the five embellishments triggers a different sound, collectively narrating my journey through music, spanning various instruments over 12 years.
